To get as many translators and interpreters to MOVE. Our work includes hours on end either sitting at the desk or (in rare cases) standing at it and generally not going outside very much. Any physical activity will contribute to a healthier lifestyle, promote creativity and in the long run it just makes us fitter and happier.
We want to raise general awareness for our profession. Translators are often not seen in the business world, masked behind online profiles and static websites. But we’re there! Sports and health are something we have in common with just about anybody in the world, including potential clients and people interested in our profession.
As of right now, we have no idea what we will have accomplished with this challenge on April 30th, 2017. The #1mm community of translators and interpreters is growing on a daily basis. We talk in our FB group and on Endomondo, and speak up on the #1mm blog: Perhaps we will end up starting a fundraiser, or work together with companies who design ergonomic workspaces. Maybe we’ll just have fun and enjoy staying healthy.

The rules are simple

You must be a translator or an interpreter to participate. The campaign runs from May 1, 2016 till April 30, 2017. You can sign up any time. Our goal is to collect 1,000,000 miles, covered by YOU. Running, biking, hiking, swimming… whatever moves you.

First, you need to sign up to receive your private link to document your progress. You will then be listed on our Participants page. When you first sign up, you will receive an email with all the information you need to participate in the challenge and to be part of the MOVEMENT.

And then...

Once you’ve signed up to our challenge, we will use the information provided only to the extent that we can collect the miles you’ve covered. You will have to update your milage manually. To make it easier for you to track your own mileage, we have created a challenge on Endomondo.

In order to make it a bit easier for you to track your contribution, we have created a challenge on Endomondo. If you join the challenge there as well, we kindly ask you to post a quick introduction in the comment thread on Endomondo. Feel free to add either Tanya or Zbynek to your contacts on Endomondo. This will make it easier for us to keep the list of participants limited to translators and interpreters.

Any eligible contribution of yours will be automatically added to the listed results in the challenge on Endomondo. However, you will still have to submit your results here (via the private link that you received after signing up). But don’t worry: We will remind you every now and then to do so.
